Male quartet breaks ranks
mainThe Calder Quartet has made its first change in 20 years. See if you can spot the difference.
Before.
After.
Violinist Tereza Stanislav joins the quartet as second violin, replacing Andrew Bulbrook. Tereza is presently Assistant Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
I listened to them before and after and I didn’t hear a difference, and I believe that’s the best and most relevant thing one can say about an established string quartet.
Apart from the fact that women now start getting their positions they always deserved but “thanks” to patriarchy, couldn’t.
Are you insinuating that she is just good enough for second violin?
In the second picture they’re smiling.
And they all have hair
Yeah, I noticed that too. They look miserable in the first picture.
Just takes a beautiful redhead!
In the ‘After’ picture they are all standing.

Next, an all-female quartet needs to hire a male. What do you think, Norman? Don’t tell me, I already know.
Yes, they do. It’s always better when you mix it up.
They all have hair now.
It would be great if we could over all this self consciousness as to whether somebody is female or not, Jewish or not, where they’re from (Europe, U.S., South America or Asia, etc.), rich or poor, Democrat or Republican, pro or anti Brexit, etc. ad naseum. Can’t they just be musicians, first and foremost?
