Débora Waldman has been named music director of the Avignon-Provence regional orchestra starting next year.

Débora, who is from Sao Paolo, Brazil, grew up on an Israeli kibbutz, studied in Buenos Aires and Paris and served as assistant to the late Kurt Masur.

  • esfir ross says:

    She’s Brazilian

  • Robert Groen says:

Brazil, a kibbutz in Israel, Buenos Aires, Paris and the late lamented Kurt Masur: it makes for an interesting, mixed CV. Hope she does well in Provence (no reason why she shouldn’t) and I’m looking forward to a recording of French repertoire from her. Pelleas perhaps?

  • Brasileiro says:

    São Paulo is the name

  • Anon says:

I met her once, she was in the jury at one of my exams (where there were 3 out of 5 women btw).
    A very nice lady indeed!
