Berlin: Yoncheva retires after one act of Tosca
mainWe hear that Sonya Yoncheva sang just one act of Tosca last night at the Berlin Staatsoper before leaving the stage. Ms Yoncheva is expecting her second child in the autumn.
She must have given advance warning of feeling unwell because Karine Babajanyan caught a high-speed train up from Hannover and arrived just in time to save the performance, which was conducted by Sonya’s husband, Domingo Hindoyan.
When Adina realizes that Tosca is 20 sizes too big…
Precisely
Usually, the latter months of pregnancy produce some of the best singing of a soprano’s career.
Maybe some good singing, but I’d bet flinging yourself off the battlements of Castel Santangelo wouldn’t do much for your unborn child (except perhaps hasten its arrival!!)
Another hot news update on the reproductive habits of opera singers.
It is interesting in all my years of opera attendances in many opera houses, I have never experienced as many mishaps with singers as in this opera house. I wonder why.
