To play through the pain, or not
mainNearly a decade ago, I had a chat with the pianist Paul Lewis in a BBC green room about his experiences of playing through injury.
Sadly he is still suffering.
Tonight, he is replaced at short notice at Carnegie Hall by Jonathan Biss. The reason: arm injury.
Awful to know. Have been listening to his superb recordings of Haydn piano sonatas. May he recover soon. Also superb are his Schubert and Beethoven recordings. All are top notch without exception.
Especially Haydn sonatas are physically dangerous.
Is this related to the awful fall he had in Liverpool which you reported ?

I would be devil enough to offer many other fingers, from other pianists of same generation to the seagulls, but not his onez. He is real fine artist.
