Would you buy this for a child?
No but I didn’t think Prokofiev wrote it for children
It is usually more like so….: http://www.eclassical.com/shop/17115/art15/h1934/4741934-origpic-5a1220.jpg
Well that’s absolutely ghastly.
Yes, really — how many children do you know who would sit down and listen to a Prokofiev CD?
Cinderella, probably not that many. But there is Peter and the Wolf. Mine loved it. And there are lots of great appropriate classical clips on youtube. That’s another discussion, though a very interesting one.
No doubt it is more about the musician’s image. But given the prominence of “Cinderella” it is amusing. I guess the prince had to start looking somewhere.
For a child, I would show them the Frederick Ashton version so they understand the humor behind the spiky music. Then I might get them a recording of the original orchestral version.
Later on, if they became interested in the piano, I might get them this CD. From the audio clips on his website, he sounds very good.
