Salzburg star is ‘acutely ill’
mainThe soprano Asmik Grigorian, who has scored a huge success as Salzburg’s Salome, was replaced last night at a few hours’ notice by the Swedish singer Malin Byström.
Grigorian is said to be ‘acutely ill’.
We wish her better.
Malin Byström made her Salome-debut in Amsterdam.

Yes. And she was outstanding there as she was yesterday in Salzburg. Great actress. Big voice. A superb evening.
. . . and the irony is that her “Salome”, conducted by Gatti, is still going to be issued on the RCO Live label. At least they’re ‘big enough’ to do that for the sake of the other performers (other than Gatti, that is). Here’s the whole thing on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beaxuusuJJ4

The wrong video link was of Chris Olka, tuba player of the Cincinnati Symphony (formerly with Seattle Symphony).
So what exactly is the acute sickness afflicting Grigorian?
We have not ben told and do not need to know unless she wishes it.
+1
Thank you for saying that. Absolutely true–albeit sadly not a popular sentiment these days. Best wishes to Ms. Grigorian.
It may be an after effect from the Regietheater style of the Salome production (photo).
do you feel better now, John Borstlap, saviour of music and opera?
I know, it’s all very difficult, isn’t it? Keep trying!
Borstlap, i said it before and i’ll say it again:
You’re predictable, you’re boring and you obviously have an ego problem. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be trolling here.
Here’s a thought: why don’t you put more time on your music and less on slippeddisc.
Guess what: we’ll be ok. And maybe, maybe your music will start to sound relevant.
In other words: get a life!
For the record, Asmik Grigorian was back singing Salome at Salzburg tonight.
Mighty good she was.
