Florian Sonnleitner will play his last concert with the Bavarian Radio Symphony under Simon Rattle on January 26. He has been with the orchestra since 1976, and first concertmaster since 1986.

His father, Fritz Sonnleitner (1920-84), was concertmaster of the Munich Philharmonic.

Together they shaped Munich’s string sound for 67 years.

From 1940 to 1944, Fritz Sonnleitner was concertmaster of the Philharmonic of the General Government, based in Krakow. He was the only German member of the all-Polish orchestra.

Was this guy really concertmaster of the BRSO? The example from Schumann’s op.105 sound’s like a student of a musicschool with mediocre talent. If you want to listen to both the Schumann violinsonates with all the ‘Leidenschaft’ and how it should be played , listen to Christian Ferras with Pierre Barbizet at the piano. Their DG recording is still unsurpassed….

Sonnleitner´s father was co-concertmaster,as Florian is.don´t forget to mention the legendary Rudolf Koeckert, who shared concertmaster duties with Sonnleitner sr.during the Jochum and Kubelik years. Both lead also famous string quartets named after them.
