The Berlin Phil played Shanghai Symphony at soccer. After 90 minutes…
main… yeah, the Germans always win….
A combined Berlin Phil and Dresden Staatskapelle XI beat the plucky Shanghai Symphony by 4-0.
The Berlin Phil’s principal clarinet Andreas Ottensamer scored a hat-trick.
Some of the Berlin players forgot their protective gear.
The prince of clarinet is also a sportsman. (and I still mourn his father, the king of clarinet…)
I am duty bound to report that they don’t always win. We beat them a couple of years ago in a match with our London orchestras 11 (indeed, a report appeared on this very blog!).
To say we will never let them forget it would be an understatement…
