Max specifies which whisky to sip when conducting his music
mainThis weekend, Christopher Warren-Green is conducting Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ marvellous piece An Orkney Wedding with Sunrise with the Charlotte Symphony.
Chris was friends with the composer and visited him at home in Orkney not long before his death earlier this year. Max inscribed the following instruction on the front of his score:

‘Think about Highland Park or Scapa (MY favourite!) before lifting the baton – & afterwards, down a FEW most generous glasses! Much love & infinite thanks, Max.’
Sorely missed.
I used to drink Laphrohaig with that music…
Be careful here. You wouldn’t want the fate that befell Alexander Glazunov when he conducted the premiere of Rachmaninoff’s First Symphony. Better to have the Scotch after the concert.
Agreed.
Except the modern score neither requires being properly performed nor deserves it. So maybe Glazunov would do it justice.
You seem to have had the several generous glasses before posting your comment.
