UPDATE: Vastly unhelpful advice from Delta: Customers should check the status of their flight before heading to the airport while the issue is being addressed.

2nd UPDATE: Flights resumed shortly before noon, New York time.

  • According to CNN’s aviation expert Mary Schiavo, this has to be more than a simple computer systems failure. All airline computer systems have back-up generators. Whatever the reason, it’s going to take several days to clear the backlog of flights.

  • Maybe some day airlines and banks will learn the lesson. They should stop depending solely on computers. To depend solely on computers without having a Plan B is real nuts.
