Aix festival president is no more
mainEdmonde Charles-Roux, war heroine and president of the Aix-en-Provence festival from time immemorial, has died at 95. She recorded her mrmories of the festival here:
She was a founding editor of Elle magazine, editor of Vogue and winner of the Prix Goncourt for her novel To Forget Palermo.’
Another comment on her remarkable life: She left Vogue Paris in 1966, as the result of a conflict because she wanted to place a black woman on the cover of the magazine. She wrote her award winning novel (Oublier Palerme: Prix Goncourt 1966) around the same time time. Her passing leaves a huge void in the world of culture in France.
