ENO chorus singer steps in for sick Musetta
mainAt the Coliseum last night, the role of Musetta in La Bohème was sung by a member of the chorus, Jo Appleby, in place of the unwell Rhian Lois. It was the final performance of the run and it was, we hear, extremely well received.
Jo, a popular company member, is married to the tenor Andrew Rees.

I am mindful of the quote from 42nd street:
“Kid you’re going out a nobody and coming back a star”
Bravo to Ms Appleby. Another demonstration of the–if you’ll excuse the pun–unsung heros of Opera: the chorus.
