Death of a trailblazing Brazilian pianist
mainMaria Clodes Jaguaribe died yesterday in Rio de Janeiro on her 87th birthday.
The first Brazilian to perform at the Salzburg Festival, she married a US academic in the 1960s and servedĀ for 35 years as Director of Young Pianist Program of the Tanglewood Festival.
Two years ago, in poor health, Maria returned to Brazil
A wonderful pianist whom I heard many times in recital at Boston University. Her performances of Granados were especially memorable.
Maria was my teacher at BU and beyond. She was a passionate person, a brilliant pianist and like a parent to me. Her wisdom, humour and humanity made this world a much better place. The colors of the world are much dimmer now that she is not here and there is a special love in my heart for her always.
I knew Maria very well whilst in Munich. Do you have a list or discogphy please. I ased Boston University, but they did not dain to reply
