Maria Clodes Jaguaribe died yesterday in Rio de Janeiro on her 87th birthday.

The first Brazilian to perform at the Salzburg Festival, she married a US academic in the 1960s and servedĀ for 35 years as Director of Young Pianist Program of the Tanglewood Festival.

  • Greg says:

A wonderful pianist whom I heard many times in recital at Boston University. Her performances of Granados were especially memorable.

  • Liz says:

Maria was my teacher at BU and beyond. She was a passionate person, a brilliant pianist and like a parent to me. Her wisdom, humour and humanity made this world a much better place. The colors of the world are much dimmer now that she is not here and there is a special love in my heart for her always.
