LSO mourns another principal
mainEight months after the death of their last principal oboe, Kieron Moore, the London Symphony Orchestra are in mourning for his splendid predecessor, Roger Lord. A modest man, unfailingly kind, he played in the orchestra for 33 years, 1953-1986, and can be heard on hundreds of recordings. He was advising musicians up until the beginning of this week.
How very sad. Not only did I hear him perform on countless occasions during the 1960s and 70s but we had a nice correspondence about 6 months ago.
I suppose we have Roger to thank for Madeleine Dring’s most excellent Trio for flute, oboe and piano.May he rest in peace.
