Wolfgang Wagner’s aide takes his secrets to the grave
RIPThe death has been announced of Oswald Georg Bauer, assistant and press officer to the Bayreuth chief for three decades, known as the festival’s most loyal employee.
Bauer, who was 82, worked in-house from 1974 to 1986 and continued to work ad hoc for Wolfgang while serving in a supposedly independent capacity as Secretary General of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He wrote an official scenographic history of the Bayreuth Festival, praising Wolfgang above most of the rest of his family.
