UK concertmaster dies
RIPThe death has been communicated of Brendan O’Brien, leader of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra from 1968 to 1997.
Before joining Bournemouth, he played in the LSO and RPO. Brendan was married to the Irish violinist Anita Dunkerley.
Remembering Brendan O’Brien’s excellent leadership in the Bournemouth symphony orchestra very well. He was one of a special kind, like George Hurst and of course the much regretted Silvestri with whom O’Brien started.
A gentleman leader of this fine orchestra
Brendan was Irish. He was also leader of the then Radio Eireann S.O.(Now NSOI.).
Brendan was my friend and a source of great support to me as a conductor.
I loved hearing his many anecdotes of life in the U.K., and stories from his travels.
He was very much admired and appreciated by George Hurst (my mentor) as well as Sir Simon Rattle.
R.I.P. Brendan – ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam!
