Head of UK Intelligence is recruited by Covent Garden
NewsThe Royal Opera House announced five new trustees today.
They include Sir Alex Younger, former Chief of the Secret Intelligence Services and the longest serving head of MI6 in 50 years.
The others are music publisher Janis Susskind, former Harrdos chief Michael Ward, Conde Nast executive Vanessa Kingori and exNational Theatre CEO Lisa Burger.
One question: do any of them even like opera?
Younger was appointed to examine Jakub Hrusa’s nocturnal research on “Hans Rott”, suspected to be a Soviet composer working under pseudonym, who created a Mahlerian plagiarism in order to destroy the myth surrounding Gustav Mahler’s first two triumphant symphonies, which were usurped by American Jews after World War II.
Um, “nocturnal” research, you say?
Lol.
Gustavo, your slip is showing.
Nice to see a spy with great musical taste!
There are at least 10 operas by Respyghi.
It’s Respighi pronounced respighi, and not Respyghi pronounced respaighi.
I spy with my little eye something beginning with…i.
You missed the joke – spy!
Three years ago, driving to Caumsett State Historic Park Reserve, an idyllic setting of nearly 2,000 acres for walks and horseback riding, including a woods, pond, and dramatic shoreline fronting Long Island Sound, I noticed a For Sale sign pointing up an especially captivating road, and decided to take a peek inside. Entering the grand living room, I spied a discreetly placed photo on an end table. It was none other than Allen Dulles of the OSS and CIA. The realtor confided the seller was indeed related to Dulles, and I was the first person to notice and recognize the photo, very surprised I had done so.
Years ago, walking through a favorite wooded section of Caumsett, I spotted a red fox for the first and only time there, a most beautiful animal who considered me briefly with surprise before darting away. This excitement generated a musical idea opening an early composition.

Shhh! Don’t tell anyone. It’s meant to be secret.
He could team up with Angela Merkel’s husband (known as “phantom of the opera”).
