    “Those who want a refund… ”
    lol, as if!

  • sammy says:

    Doesn’t Thielemann have a full-time job elsewhere?

    Just saying.

(*snicker* I guess that’s his way of saying “up yours” once his contract wasn’t renewed at Dresden.)

    • Lausitzer says:

Which full-time job? His “chief conductor” gig in Dresden, with ten opera performances per year? I really wonder if now Staatsoper Berlin seriously intends to work this way, without a GMD.

  • MacroV says:

They’re going to Korea for just two concerts? That doesn’t make any sense.

    Refund? Seriously?

    • David says:

The Asian societies pay millions and millions for these tours, they’re literally turning away corporate sponsors. I’ve. Just got back from this evening’s VPO concert in Hong Kong and it was packed with Jockey Club sponsors

    • Andrew says:

It is three concerts. Actually, there will be another private concert. An in fact most performances in Korea are refundable.

  • Gustavo says:

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Barenboim or Thielemann: I wouldn’t have got a ticket in the first place.

  • Chuck says:

But first, one more performance — tonight — of Bruckner’s 8th Symphony with the Chicago Symphony. Have been looking forward to this since it was announced last March.

  • Barty says:

and more concerts in Japan concluding in Tokyo with 3 concerts

  • Petros Linardos says:

Thielemann is not known for touring a lot. I can’t help wondering whether this is the beginning of a long term relationship. Between sound culture, and being both a pit and concert hall orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin is a great fit for Thielemann. And Thielemann may be a great fit the Staatskapelle.

    • Sotto Voce says:

Yes – I can’t see him in Chicago away from Germany (and his mother). I believe Norman once said Thielemann was as German as a bratwurst in a bierkeller which hits the mark. Now that the Staatskapelle opportunity has opened up, I can’t imagine those talks with Barenboim round at his place aren’t about succession planning. The Berlin boy will want to come home.

    • Novagerio says:

Petros Linardos: Und er ist ein Berliner!

  • SY says:

Actually it’s 3 concerts in Seoul. The concert on 29th is ‘invitation’ concert, not on public sale.

    • Michal Kaznowski says:

Any news from anywhere re; how Barenboim’s recovery is going ? Not nice the way the tone of the press is that they’re writing his Obituary !
I wonder if DB will make his 80th birthday concert in a couple of weeks

  • JB says:

Staatskapelle Berlin has an environmental agenda and gives “Klimakonzerte” to support climate protection projects. I find it then utterly inconsistent to go on tour in Asia. This should be the first thing to scrap if they want to protect the environment.

  • Nick says:

    We all love christian thielemann

  • Graham says:

Thielemann is now confirmed for the Japan dates.

I have tickets for the Brahms cycle at Suntory Hall.

Very sorry that Daniel Barenboim is not able to come to Japan. I wish him the very best.

But also very excited that Christian Thielemann is coming instead. The best possible replacement.

  • Rosario says:

What’s up with Thielemann jumping in left and right these days?

  • Anita says:

Wishing Daniel Barenboim good health and better days. His absence is a loss to the music world.
