Either I’m completely misunderstanding something, or the headline and the text are in direct contradiction. Is he a Czech concertmaster who will be playing as soloist with the Berlin Phil, or a Czech violinist who has been appointed concertmaster in Berlin? Or – a third possibility – is he a guest concertmaster (not soloist) in Berlin this week?
The Czech Philharmonic website lists him as a concertmaster. He is also a Czech soloist. The headline and content of NL’s posting are indeed confusing. Fortunately his talent is crystal clear — there is quite a bit of his playing available on YouTube, including standard repertoire concertos.
It reads like he will be the next concertmaster….
He will be guest concertmaster with the Berlin Philharmonic this week (as he writes on his Facebook-Page https://www.facebook.com/jan.mracek.3.
The audition for the concertmaster position will take place on 16 and 17 June, very likely that the orchestra will already want to try him out.
Your headline contradicts the text, but in any case he’s a magnificent violinist.
Yep, he’s just guest concertmaster so that’s normal in all over the world. The audition of 1st concertmaster is in 16/17 June 2022 and the application deadline is 5 May 2022 / now in thursday.
And end of this May – they are choosing successor for Dufour as principal flute
Good for Jan. I remember a few years ago being surprised at a Bbcso concert when czech violinist fišer appeared as leader
I was at the concert, a brilliant debut by both conductor Antonello Manacorda and Mr. Mráček who was indeed ‘just’ a guest concertmaster…for the moment. Remember that the Philharmonic has several Concertmasters. Wishing him all success; his playing was gorgeous. And. Maestro Manacorda receieved the ultimate compliment: A solo bow as demanded by an appreciative audience.
