The UN’s heavily politicised and widely discredited education and culture organisation has placed a huge estimate on the number of culture jobs that have been lost since 2020.

Today’s report, titled Reshaping policies for creativity’ remarks that 95 percent of cultural exports stem from the northern hemisphere.

Unesco adds that only one third of national art prizes worldwide are awarded to women.

If you’ve got time (or the energy) to read all 328 pages you can find them at https://unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/pf0000380474

Pass the salt please. I need a pinch to digest this.

  • James Weiss says:

I seriously doubt there are 10 million arts jobs in the entire universe.

Basically Mad Libs: “UN’s heavily politicised and widely discredited _____ organization”. Any answer there would be believable.

  • he says:

Boo hoo, the pure hypocrisy and chutzpah of UNESCO bureaucrats — ensconced in Paris with view of the Eiffel Tower triple vaccinated and enjoying universal health care paid for by the French — writing reports (after reports, after reports, after reports) on the injustice of Northern Europeans dominating Southern people of color and their cultures.

Puhleez, move your offices to Africa and hire some locals and then let’s talk.

Zero credibility with less than zero relevance.

Look up Ad Hominem attack. It may be fair to critique UNESCO for various reasons, but that does not mean everything they do/say is subsequently automatically discredited. This is a logical fallacy. You present zero argument against their claims, and simply dismiss them at its premise without evidence. It’s akin to a child sulking and saying “I’m not listening to you because I don’t like you”

  • Freewheeler says:

Probably a good thing. I’ve always thought there was WAY too much Art.

  • Frank Flambeau says:

I doubt that there were ever that number of jobs in the arts to begin with.

  • Margaret Koscielny says:

I was struck by the statement that only a third of national art prizes go to women.

As far as the figure of 10,000,000 art jobs is concerned: there are
over 7.9 Billion people in the world (2020). I’m an artist, not a mathematician, but that number of art jobs seems a modest estimate, overall. That would take in all the arts: music, visual, dance, theatre, etc.
