The Romanian opera singer Smaranda Draghici Paslaru has lost a three-year fight with breast cancer.

A soloist of the Constanta National Opera House, she is described by a visting conductor as an excellent Gilda in Rigoletto.

In a mourning notice, the Constanta Opera writes: ‘Smaranda was the friend that anyone would want. She was the daughter and sister who loved and respected her family. She was the artist that any theater in the world would need.’
