There was due to be a live broadcast of Andris Nelsons and the Leipzig Gewandhaus on MDR Kultur last night. But they announced on the radio that Nelsons had been diagnosed with Covid so the concert was cancelled.

Today, the Gewandhaus director Andreas Schulz made the following statement:

False positive PCR tests cause concert cancellation !!
It turned out this morning, 5.2.2022, yesterday’s concert led by Andris Nelsons was cancelled at short notice due to false-positive Corona-PCR tests.

Due to an error in the laboratory of a testing center, used by Andris Nelson and some musicians for private reasons, positive results were sent just before the concert began. They proved to be false today. However, the concert was cancelled last night.

Of course, the concert-goers will receive a refund of the full ticket price. In addition, the Gewandhaus is offering a discount for one of the large concerts in March or April. Visitors and visitors to yesterday’s concert will receive a written notification over the next week.

The Gewandhaus Orchestra has an exceptionally high vaccination rate with over 95%; Andris Nelson has also been boosted. During a rehearsal and concert week, the conductors and musicians still have to undergo a strict test regime: you must perform an antigen rapid test six times a week, not boosted or vaccinated orchestra members take an additional PCR test three times a week. The test concept is an important part of the measures and hygiene concept of the married house in cooperation with the St. George Clinic.

People should stop trusting the results of single samples.

These are not digital but biochemical processes which can vary in response to a whole set of confounding factors.

And most of the kit is made in China.

    High-throughput money making.

PCR can apmplify a lot of rubbish on a bad day.

    On top comes human error.

So 3 consecutive PCR per person, please!

Sorry, but no. What‘s next? PCR tests every hour?
„Wollt ihr den totalen Corona Krieg?“

    • Amos says:

Actually any testing lab is only as good as the CRO running the facility. This has nothing to do with PCR technology or test kits made anywhere. A first-rate lab has strict SOPs in place for every reagent and every piece of equipment as well as QC/QA departments to ensure meaningful results. What is surprising is that they are using PCR rather than an antibody-based criterion because it has been demonstrated that the latter is more relevant in determining current infectious status.

The statement .. the laboratory of a testing center, used by Andris Nelson and some musicians for private reasons… is odd suggesting that the lab in question is not one used by the majority of public health facilities/hospitals.

        What is CRO? and QC/QA?

      • Tamino says:

No. “private reasons” is a bad translation. It’s an official lab. They did PCR test, even though they didn’t have to, because they were fully vaccinated, even boostered. Thus their decision to still do a PCR test was over-cautious and personal/“private”.

I agree that PCR tests – even more do now with Omicron’s shortened infection cycle – are questionable as far as determining infectious status is concerned. PCR finds a needle in a haystack. Often that needle is not going to hurt anyone.

People have no idea, what multitude of potentially fatal microbes can be found in their bodies, while they enjoy good health, when searching with PCR for it specifically…

    • Gus says:

Might sound like semantics to some but it was not a false positive PCR, it was an erroneous result.
A quick call to the lab might have revealed the reported error earlier and the concert could have been saved.

  • fflambeau says:

    Right call. Congratulations!

  • Anthony Sayer says:

Just shows how stupid this appalling, brainless charade is.

  • Dennis Pastrami says:

Better safe than sorry… No need to hear concerts of the Superspreader Symphony Orchestra.

  • Una says:

Something they all just don’t need, and everyone in the audience then gets their money back so a financial disaster as well. More care needed.

  • Alan says:

If he’s boosted and the orchestra is all but fully vaccinated then time to get on with it. Covid is going nowhere. If you want to hide then hide. Te rest of us would like to get on with our lives.

  • Peter says:

Hysteria will always let you down. Well deserved.

Not, treat covid like the cold it is, and save your fear for something important (government, for instance)

    • Amos says:

Tell the families and loved ones of the ~ 6 million people that they died from a “cold”. Hold whatever political beliefs you wish but don’t use them to undermine public health policy.

  • music lover says:

LOL……happened to a singer friend of mine twice….They almost closed one of Germany´s top houses because of awrong PCR test.Same with a director(3 times)…Unreliable and useless.
