    SARSte

  • Imbrod says:

Damn. He had plenty of energy conducting in Paris last week. Quick recovery, Maestro.

    • Cynical Bystander says:

He has tested poitive. He has no symptons. He is self isolating as per the regulations. Quick recovery, from what? The inconvenience of it all?

  • Sam's Hot Car Lot says:

    Such a shame.

I enjoyed watching Salonen’s concert on Mezzo from just two weeks ago with the Orchestre de Paris of the Shostakovich first cello concerto with Gauthier Capucon and the Bruckner 6th.

Sadly, with omicron in the air, it seems likely that North America and Europe will be going back into lockdown soon.

  • RONALD FRANK MOVRICH says:

Salonen was the New York Phil’s first choice when Jaap was chosen. Salonen is very good (music director in SF) but so is Jukka-Pekka Saraste.

  • Brian says:

Not saying this is the direct cause but in the recent performances in San Francisco, he was the only one on stage seen not wearing a mask (besides the winds and brass, of course).

This comes, of course, after Rattle’s Covid diagnosis. Perhaps a cautionary note for other conductors in how they take precautions.
