Wagner spinoff premieres in Israel
NewsKundry, a monodrama on the Parsifal heroine, will premiere at Tel Aviv Opera on October 21.
Composed by Avner Dorman, and directed by Lotte de Beer, the piece involves a dialogue between a present-day singer and poor foot-washing Kundry.
Jessica Muirhead plays Jessica / Kundry. Steven Sloane will conduct the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.

Parsifal is as far from the Judaic tradition as any piece of classical music could be, except for Bach’s St. John Passion, lol.
Anyone read Cosima Wagner’s diaries? He wanted to convert the Jewish conductor to Christianity the night before the first performance. ugh.
An indirect way to smuggle-in Wagner in Israel? He is still ‘Verboten’ in the country.
But there is no danger of Wagner sounds. Mr Dorman writes American hip:

Poor Kundry will have to make quite an adjustment.
But wait, Kundry, Mr. Leather Pants and the third man (presumably the singer?) are interrupted by Charlie Parker. They follow him to a jazz club just off 42nd street (Mr. Leather Pants has to buy a Times Square hoodie first), where Kundry gets up and scat sings to “Yardbird Suite”. Kundry is finally redeemed in N.Y. Wagner and Cosima send a telegram of congratulations.
Seriously? News worthy? Avner Dorman new opera is interesting news? Please let us know if it’s a great piece. That would be news
