Angela Merkel and the man who won’t succeed
NewsThe German Chancellor made a final official appearance at the Bayreuth Festival opening yesterday in the company – very carefully distanced – of the Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder, whose bid to succeed her as Chancellor she carefully thwarted.
Söder tweeted the tense joint portrait below.
Say Käse.
A wonder he didn’t lash out.
Pray tell, how has Merkel “carefully thwarted” his candidacy? Apparently you know more about German politics than German political commentators, and I (a professor of political science at a German university) would like to profit from your insight.
Söder is the head of the CSU, a party that exists only in Bavaria. Laschet is the head of the much larger CDU, prime minister of Northrhine-Westfalia, the largest German state, and he really wanted the job. Again, pray tell how the sinister hand of Angela Merkel arranged the natural outcome of that power struggle.
Professor, you will come to learn that this blog is mainly intended to disseminate salacious gossip, but is otherwise generally a fact-free zone. It is a warm and welcoming environment for the right-wing trolls who gather here.
“but is otherwise generally a fact-free zone.”
And that’s a fact!! 😀
Other than the British politicians, they still try to practice and demonstrate social distancing in Germany. If this might help as an explanation.
“The Phantom of the Opera” looks particularly tense on that picture as he will be losing his right to exist.
No one wants to be associated with Markus Soder if he or she doesn’t absolutely have to be. Everybody knows he’s an arse.
