Munich maestro extends his deal with Berlin
NewsWhen Kirill Petrenko was elected chief of the Berlin Philharmonic, he kept them waiting by extending his Bavarian State Opera contract by a few extra years.
Now, his successor in Munich Vladimir Jurowski has extended his deal with Berlin’s Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin until mid-2027.
It’s called hedging your bets.
Given his lack of presence on the podium in his first season it looks like he could be keeping his options open. Munich is a hard nut to crack for incoming Maestri. He and Dorny might both be glad of an exit route.
Berlin is fortunate to have the two best young(ish) conductors.
Petrenko is incredible, but I think Jurowski’s depth and intellect can rival him in the right repertoire.
