mainThe South Korean pianist Su Yeon Kim has won the Concours Musical International de Montréal, collecting prizes valued at $180,000.
Here’s the booty:
– Grand Cash prize of $30,000 offered by the City of Montréal
– Joseph-Rouleau Career Development Grant
$50,000, offered by the Azrieli Foundation
– Solo recording on the Steinway & Sons label
and launch at Steinway Hall in New York city
$75,000, offered by Steinway
– Normand Beauchamp winner’s concert tour in three North-American cities
$15,000, offered by Sarah Beauchamp
– Concerto performance with the CMIM’s official orchestra,
the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM)
$7,500, offered by the OSM
– Artist Residency at Canada’s Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity
$2,500, offered by Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity

Competitions have somehow remained untouched by the diversity-equity movement.
They may have no black contestants or prize winners, but thus far nobody has made noise about it.
“I’m not a racist who doesn’t dare come right out with his simple-minded views! Nope, I truly oppose ‘diversity’ for its own sake!”

Interisting to discover a new pianist from that great country maybe one day she will make a duet with the queen Yeol Eum Son. She s used to do that.
Koreans are very talented people. Try their amazing tv series.

The most amazing thing is that she managed to win it from Brussels, where she was simultaneously participating in the semifinals of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. She didn’t make it to the final round there. You can be too ambitious I guess.
I wouldn’t call her too ambitious, when she applied to both competitions the deadlines were before covid and the competition dates were very different. Of course she could choose to withdraw from one but why? Now that q.e didn’t work out she has a very good prize in her hands.
