Worst run orchestra is hit by Covid cluster
mainOn the day the Swiss authorities are announcing a reopening plan, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande – long familiar to our readers – has been shut down until the end of June by a cluster of Covid infections.
Further cases have been discovered at the Geneva Opera.
Full report here.
Mr. Lebrecht, just curious, why do all your articles about the OSR have
“world’s worst run orchestra” in the
title?
read through posts dating back to 2012
If you follow the chain of articles that characterize it as the worst-run orchestra in the world, you’ll see that the primary evidence for that is someone’s claim that it is the worst-run orchestra in the world. It’s turtles all the way down. In one of those postings, the multi-decade solo trumpet of the orchestra disputes the claim in no uncertain terms, but what could he know that a journalist with no experience managing an orchestra would not?
“WORST RUN ORCHESTRA IS HIT BY COVID CLUSTER”
Are you absolutely sure, Norman, that the OSR is the worst-run orchestra, that no other orchestras exist which are more badly run?
Of course not.
Mr Lebrecht,
Why do you consider OSR to be the worst run orchestra (in the world ?), given the stiff competition for this accolade?
Agreed. There are many managements out there doing their damnedest to wreck orchestra institutions.
At least it has a very good conductor in Jonathan Nott, judging for two very concerts I have heard live ( Mahler 2 and Rheingold).
What is a run orchestra, anyway?
