Musicians of the Metropolitan Opera will join the Dallas Symphony for performances of Mahler’s first symphony on April 30 and May 1.

The concerts are intended as a fund-raiser for the Met musicians who have not been paid for a Covid-long year, possibly the most discreditable act in the Met’s history.

The idea of a benefit concert comes from the Met’s former principal guest conductor, Fabio Luisi, who is now chief in Dallas.

Between 40 and 50 Met musicians will take part.

It’s a tremendous act of friendship and leadership by Fabio.

So where’s Yannick? Well you might ask.

    Are you reading this, Yannick?

  • Dave says:

So, now we have half an orchestra travelling across the country during a pandemic when we have been specifically asked to curtail all non-essential travel? Nice idea, but THINK, people: do you want this pandemic to end or not? These travelling musicians are only contributing to the problem.

Made me laugh…Luisi thumbing his nose (rightfully and at long last) at Peter.

    Bravo!!

YOU SEE THIS YANNICK? THIS IS LEADERSHIP. LEARN IT.

  • Greg Bottini says:

Bravo, Fabio, and good luck and good health to all the NY MET musicians!

  • Bill Gross says:

Dallas, big city in a big Right to Work state, reaches out to a trouble union in New York City and says, let us help you. It’s not a solution, but perhaps it might shame the Met management. One can only hope.
