Friendly maestro helps Met musicians raise funds
mainMusicians of the Metropolitan Opera will join the Dallas Symphony for performances of Mahler’s first symphony on April 30 and May 1.
The concerts are intended as a fund-raiser for the Met musicians who have not been paid for a Covid-long year, possibly the most discreditable act in the Met’s history.
The idea of a benefit concert comes from the Met’s former principal guest conductor, Fabio Luisi, who is now chief in Dallas.
Between 40 and 50 Met musicians will take part.
It’s a tremendous act of friendship and leadership by Fabio.
So where’s Yannick? Well you might ask.

Are you reading this, Yannick?
So, now we have half an orchestra travelling across the country during a pandemic when we have been specifically asked to curtail all non-essential travel? Nice idea, but THINK, people: do you want this pandemic to end or not? These travelling musicians are only contributing to the problem.
Safe to fly if fully vaccinated…..according to the CDC. Good enough for me
Looking for “CDC travel restrictions,” all I could find was this page https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html, which doesn’t actually say anything about nonessential travel.
The logical hoops you just leapt through to come up with that winner of a statement are truly mind-boggling..
Made me laugh…Luisi thumbing his nose (rightfully and at long last) at Peter.
Bravo!!
Quite right. Fabio was fabulous at the Met. Miss him. Badly.
YOU SEE THIS YANNICK? THIS IS LEADERSHIP. LEARN IT.
Bravo, Fabio, and good luck and good health to all the NY MET musicians!
Dallas, big city in a big Right to Work state, reaches out to a trouble union in New York City and says, let us help you. It’s not a solution, but perhaps it might shame the Met management. One can only hope.
To be shamed, you have to be capable of feeling shame.
