Glyndebourne replaces a no-fly conductor
mainSesto Quatrini, artistic director of Lithuanian National Opera, will make his UK debut this summer at Glyndebourne in Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia.
Quatrini, 36, replaces fellow-Italian Giancarlo Andretta, who is unable to reach the UK due to quarantine restrictions.
I don’t know anything about his conducting, but Sesto Quatrini is one of the greatest Italian names I have ever seen.
If I had a son, I would name him Sesto Quatrini.
According to my PA who has an Italian aunt, the name means ‘Sister Squarefoot’.
Sei Quatrini is better.
Sesto Quatrini Bottini. It certainly has a ring to it đŸ™‚
A brother to Pericoloso Sporgersi
Sesto Quatrini is a serious talent.
I heard him twice at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca and was greatly impressed.
The Lithuanian National Opera was very lucky to have lured him to the chilly Baltic north.
One hopes that his serial Asian stalker doesn’t know where Glyndebourne is. Fortunately all the opera is called ‘Il Turco in Italia’ and not L’Italiano in Inghilterra’.
Guido Cantelli was the last great Italian conductor I know.
Wonderfully charismatic and talented young conductor mentored by Fabio Luisi, conducted an outstanding giorno del regno in Martina Franca back in 2017 conducted from memory, gave every single cue to singers and ensemble, great choice, lucky Glyndebourne!
Compared to the great Guido Cantelli, all these names you guys mentioned are all babies.
As if no one from the UK was up to it!
