Green militants are usually on the hard-left, so the politicians, even if some of them are more moderate, must give something to the party faithfuls : defunding anything than can be attacked as elitist, bourgeois and white will please the (small) hardcore green crowds. Furthermore, French politicians, with a few exceptions, aren’t that musical, and try to hide it if they are (because classical music is elitist and bourgeois and they don’t want to offend their electorate by looking more educated and therefore out of touch).
So taking a potshot at the opera can’t really hurt. The Greens are a bunch of cultural barbarians.

This is utter BS. The vice-mayor in charge of cultural affairs, Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert, is not a member of the Green Party. She was a member of the PS for a long time and since 2019 has been affiliated with LFI.
So taking potshots at Green politicians is easy when you don’t know what you’re talking about. I live in Lyon, and I do know what I’m talking about.
