Label news: Ex-EMI chief dies
mainThe formidable Bhaskar Menon, founding Chairman and CEO of EMI Music Worldwide,has died at 86.
A Delhi graduate who worked for The Gramophone Company of India, he shot up the ranks in London to create and develop the company’s global division across 46 countries.
Moving to LA, he became head of Capitol and joined EMI’s main board in its decades of decline. Among other roles he presided over the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, the global trade body.
He was responsible, with George Harrison, for organising the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh.
