Wonderful. A couple of the YT comments suggest she (or both) are sight reading. Surely not or were commentators being facetious?
Surely facetious. Harrell had known this piece forever (check out his wonderful recording with Ashkenazy from 1984).
That comment on YouTube (I only saw one) just says “imagine sight-reading this piece;” doesn’t actually say that’s what she’s doing.
Although neither one is sight-reading, Yuja is actually a fabulous sight-reader.
YouTube commentary is rarely informed commentary.
Ooh, a bit unkind. Have you read Boris Giltburg’s notes that come with each Beethoven Sonata? I know those aren’t “comments” as such, but they are jolly well informed. There is a lot on YouTube that’s commendable.
It’s been my experience that people who don’t read music think that musicians who use a score in performance are ‘sight-reading’.
ohhhh, that could explain it
Glorious, simply glorious. So direct, so moving and so wonderfully free of all affectation.
What a lovely performance by both Yuja and Lynn!
Bravi, musicisti!
Fabulous. Lynn at the height of his powers and Yuja at the start of her destiny.
I recall when Lynn Harrell and Yuja played together at a festival (I forget which one). Afterwards he said it was as though they were at one with the music, and that only the music had existed; not them, as two individuals. It was a huge compliment for Yuja, and she accepted it graciously.
An absolute delight! Thank you so much for posting it.
