String quartet gets a Strad from the national bank
mainSome things work well in Vienna.
We hear that the the Auner Quartet has been loaned two violins by the National Bank of Austria. One is a Giovanni Grancino cello (Milan 1706). The other is the Antonio Stradivari violin (‘ex Rouse-Boughton’), Cremona 1698.
This is it, played by Barbara Auner.
I see she does a variant upon that famous photograph of Enescu
A cello is not a violin. Not clear who is happier about that, the cellists or the violinists, but we all agree on the truth of the matter.
Two violins and one of them is a cello? That’s a typo to be fixed.
Where have all the comments gone?
When do these ancient Cremonese instruments start to break down into unplayability? After 300 years, I’d think we’d be approaching the long tail of any reasonable life span…
Playing a 420 year old Brescian viola. Still sounds amazing.
