Simone studied with Carl Friedberg (1872-1955), as did Malcolm Frager , Bruce Hungerford and many others.

I thought Sandy Dennis – the composer – did the original?
Sandy Denny — and she did. She recorded a demo that Judy Collins heard. Denny did not release a version till several years after Collins. And Collins’ version is not to be despised, however great Simone’s is.
