Good for him but honestly that’s a little young, hope he doesn’t burn out or become bitter at a later age
Too many Asians abandon the rich heritage of their OWN identity, cultural music and instruments, and simply conform to the west.
We need to tell them: Stop selling out, just for your typical west: continental breakfast, classical music, blue jeans, business man’s suit, etc. You have a OWN culture. Embrace it and please rather show me that! Thanks.
He was born in Melbourne, Australia!!!
The kid’s Australian. The “western” cultural tradition is as much his as anyone’s.
That said, Asians are saving classical music. Thank heaven for them.
Great music belongs to all races and musicians.
Hopefully you are just being sarcastic. There is great universal value in Western art music in a way similar to modern science. If you look closely, the two have roughly parallel trajectories. There is also great diversity within the Western tradition. An Asian kid (born in Australia in this case) learning violin is no more a traitor to his tradition than a, say, Serbian kid does the same thing. However, arguments can be made that people can learn more about non—Western art forms.
He is a human being from the planet Earth. We walk in all cultures as we wish.
You sound like you are afraid that Asian musicians will dominate Classical music soon.
He’s an Australian. He was born here. Stop thinking because he looks Chinese he’s culturally ‘Chinese’ and should play chinese music on chinese instruments.
Brilliant future!
Will he be managed by Mr. Wissman at IMG Artists?https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSL1E8KS9GX20120928
Good for him.
I, for one, look forward to his profound musical insights.
You didn’t mention the word fraudster after IMG Artists? Have you interviewed the owner about his conviction of financial fraud? Why do artists still place their trust in this agency, if it has just a clouded past of corruption and fraud? Just wondering!!

Hope everyone makes lots and lots of money from him. Including the “fraudster” owner of IMG Artists (quoting you there :). And let’s hope he doesn’t burn out and end up working stacking baked beans at Coles or Woolworths! Look at Menuhin didn’t he burn out? His playing became awful later!!
Edward Walton, 14 has the same teacher, Robin Wilson,
And won Piccolo Violino Magico 2019. He’s a remarkably different violinist, lyrical , and polished technique. He’s living a normal family and school life and seems not to want to be hard sold until adulthood.
We wish him the best but one would hope that these children were given a chance to mature before being thrust into the limelight as a cash cow like this.
