I essentially agree with the stance that the UK does not need to hide from its own history, but the recent past (since 2016), and especially the present political outcome, is the greatest embarrassment for this Nation. In this respect, it is right to rethink the role of national self-glorification.
The greater national embarrassment would have been if given the chance of freedom in 2016, we had not taken it. Even worse would have been the election of a communist antisemite as PM. Both perils avoided, so double tick from me. Advance, Britannia!
Britain has gambled away its “chance of freedom” in Europe.

Read Andrew Roberts’ majestic biography for full treatment of Churchil’s attitude to “Europe”. But in short, it was ‘in’ but not ‘of’.
‘Where do we stand?’ Churchill asked the Commons in 1952:
“We are not members of the European Defence Community, nor do we intend to be merged in a Federal European system. We feel we have a special relation to both. This can be expressed by prepositions, by the preposition ‘with’ but not ‘of’ — we are with them, but not of them.”
So, cherry picking from the very beginning.
You do not speak for “this Nation”.
Pure narcissism on your part.
