Conductor quits Richard Strauss
mainAppointed barely two years ago as director of the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Alexander Liebreich has emailed his resignation to the town council.
Not enough cash or funds to tun a proper festival, he complained.
Since the council never got round to sending him a contract, the post is vacant immediately.
Nice venue.
In the end, they will discover that they are lucky to be rid of him. I have experienced a few too many of his performances.
Venue Looks a bit small for Alpine Symphony…
Good for the festival. During his tenure as a MD in Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, he did absolutely nothing special…
A marvellous new concert hall was built during his tenure, he started a wonderful music festival and also recorded several award-winning recordings. Critical much?
Beginning of building the (indeed marvellous) concert hall has started way before he got the position. It just happened to be finished during his tenure.
Maybe he is a good manager – I dont know. But remembering a total faliure of his Tschaikovsky 6th in Warsaw and few other at least medicore concerts, it wasnt a best time for this – superb – orchestra.
well, the copyright cash flow cow dried out last year…
Losing Alexander Liebreich is a huge loss for the Richard Strauss Festival and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It was incredible what he achieved in just two years. He totally transformed the Festival with his imaginative programming and bringing in top level orchestras and artists including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Lisa Batiashvili, Piotr Anderszewsk, Asmik Grigorian, François Leleux etc etc.
I understand that there is no great will in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to keep the Festival going, certainly not at the level of the past two years. A great pity.
