One last shot?

I do not understand the reference to “last glimpse”. This is not a last glimpse of Arrau but one of his earliest recordings, from 1929, available on the Marston label for 2 decades & still in print as a CDR at https://www.marstonrecords.com/collections/piano/products/arrau.

What I am missing is that there has been no mention of the passing of Abbey Simon – one of the greatest concert artists of the 20th and 21st centuries – just a few days ago at his home in Switzerland. He was less than a month away from his 100th birthday. Altho he gave his first performance at age 5, his career started officially in 1940 with the winning of the Naumberg competition, if memory serves. The Washington Post and NY Times covered this event, as did the pianophiles web site.

Here’s a collection of live recordings by Mr. Simon, including the earliest that I am aware of, a Liszt Concerto #1 from 1948. There is also one full length recital video from 2007.

    An excellent choice of pianist/musician/genius.
