Just in: Jonas Kaufmann is taking a month out, and more
mainThe tenor has told the German press agency in a CD-publicity interview that he has not sung at all for the past four weeks.
Kaufmann, 50, has also taken a decision to reduce the frequency of his appearances, not singing every night or even every second night, but only every third or fourth.
He says: ‘The trend has to be towards more free time because this is my last chance to enjoy a family and not just look on from afar’.
More here.
Kaufmann’s wife, Christiane Lutz, is presently directing Verdi for a Glyndebourne tour.
Ticket lottery then !?
Buyer beware —
Must have been a hologram I saw 13 and 17 days ago!
Thank you so much for this information. Without Slipped Disc we wouldn’t know anything…
What a nonsense !!! The interview was taken during the Otello run and he had holidays before after the 3 Andrea Chenier in Australia until Otello rehearsals in München = 4 weeks off stage. A bit more than 2 weeks after Otello he presents his new CD and sings a concert on Monday in Wien; prrsents the now book and then goes to rehearsals for the new production and role dabut of Tote Stadt. Where is the so called “break”. Everybody needs some holidays and starts work after that; isn`t it ?
Your comment is so selfish. He can do whatever he wants and you should be so lucky to hear him when you can. This is bullshit when the audience demands more appearances. No. If he wants a break, have a break, but we the public should never force an artist to perform for our own selfish pleasure. Check yourself.
Oh another groupie. So disgusting!
Right! I was at his Munich performance of Otello on September 24–just over two weeks ago.
Everything about the present tenor Kaufmann makes me terribly , awfully sad. Angry and sad. Sad and angry.
Why? Can you elaborate?
He just makes me angry.
I mean the last part of his declaration makes my heart sink. And also connecting Mrs.Lutz’ growing visibility in the opera world as a director with his on going artistic diminution is the cruelest thing to do.
Early retirement looms.
One can only hope.
Another book!!!
& a picture book as well???????
I note he’s due to sing at the Wiener Konzerthaus shortly.
Might be wise to take note of when this interview was made. He had summer holidays after Australia. He has since sung Otello and will be in Vienna this coming week. He has also been to Glynebourne to support his wife. All that is fair enough. There is after all more to life than living out of a suitcase which I imagine he has done for a good proportion of his career. Maybe he wants more balance in his life? Who are we to judge? Give him a break……. in every sense of the word.
Why? Did anyone give Margarete Joswig a break?
The lady director is smart , talented and educated , but I fear that her genuine interest in her wonderful husband s art is zero and has always been this way.
From where do You kow? Do You know her? She supports JK intensly since they are a love couple, goes with him despite her own work now even with the baby. He never before was such “nursed” than the few last years. One is true: she does not insist in his work, as its his and she has her own.
What is a love couple?
What he means is that this time he is going to be a good husband and father. We’ll see.
