  • The View from America says:

    Shostakovich would have approved —

  • Peter says:

    Boring.

  • yujafan says:

I can not imagine Shostakovich in that dress, or any other for that matter (thankfully). Yuja looks much better. Go girl!

  • Michel says:

People talk more about her problematic outfits than about her piano playing ! Does she only want to be remembered for wearing short skirts ?

  • Brian says:

When I read the headline, I was about to display sincere shock, thinking that perhaps Yuja had performed or recorded the Shostakovich with a few bars missing.

Ah well. All’s well that ends well. That end’s well. That end as well?

On another note, what is the point of Instagram?

    • yujafan says:

Or even, what is the point of your comment?

      • Edgar says:

Darling, your infatuation prevents you from understanding the real question: What is the point of Instagram?

Pray tell us if you can.

    • Vaquero357 says:

Instagram was invented to give teenagers something to do with all the selfies they shoot with their smart phones. But they’re all so busy posting their photos that nobody is looking at anybody else’s pix. Oh, and the teenagers are now, technically, adults. But they haven’t grown up.

Back to the topic: Yuja can dress as she pleases. If you like her playing but her wardrobe bothers you, don’t look at Instagram or go to her concerts in person. Listen to radio broadcasts/webcasts of her concerts, such as the *excellent* Shostakovich Concerto No. 1 she did with the BSO last Saturday night. (I was listening on the web and so totally not distracted.)

  • John Rook says:

She is quite brilliant, it has to be said.

    • RW2013 says:

Indeed, especially compared to the awful, stressed conducting of AN.

    • Karin Becker says:

Exactly! This video of one of the worst concerts in classical music shows that one should not play Beethoven’s last sonata without knowing the 31 other sonatas previously composed. Miss Wang will not get a seat in the piano heaven!

    • Karen says:

Yes absolutely mesmerising and brilliant. Talented and beautiful.

  • Terry Jones' Organ says:

It was not shorter. It was nothing at all.

  • Gustavo says:

    Nothing new.

Friedrich Gulda may have liked Instagram.

  • John george says:

She is competing with Lola, if there is anything better than Shostakovich it’s with beautiful legs

    • We privatize your value says:

Honestly, she’s short, a little stocky, and not leggy at all, though. Nothing wrong with that, we can’t all look like Valerie Leon.

  • Adista says:

Her shtick is pretty tired at this point

  • Tamino says:

If she washes her clothes like she plays piano, too hot, no wonder they shrink.

  • M McAlpine says:

Amazes me she can pedal in those skyscraper heels!

  • Karin Becker says:

Wow! Miss Thigh now serves voyeurs with a view of both thighs. How creative!

  • A says:

Kindly stop regulating women’s bodies and insinuating that they should or should not wear certain items of clothing. This is not up to you and never will be, and perpetuating this narrative is disrespectful and poses a larger problem of making sure women are less than men.

  • Drew Turner says:

Who cares !? She can play !

  • sam says:

Are you happy to see me or is that a trumpet in your hands?

  • Olev says:

Have to love the comments, though –

    waalpe
Besides great musician, you are a wonderful and sexy fairy. Kisses

  • David says:

While Yuja obviously needs help with her wardrobe, she is nonetheless one of the top pianist in the world today!

  • boringfileclerk says:

    HERO!

  • George says:

    That’s a great Shortakovich.

  • Karl says:

That’s a better dress than the one she wore last February. LEGS!!

Someone should also note how great the BSO trumpet player, Thomas Rolfs was in this concert. I attended the Thursday evening performance. I have never heard such incredible playing.

  • ACN says:

    Utterly thrilling playing, as usual.

  • Reality Check says:

It is no great secret that Yuja isn’t considered attractive in Asian society. Non Asians are obviously unaware of the standards in Asia and, compared to your typical Arby’s eating American female , Yuja has a nice figure. Yuja knows this and is playing it for all it’s worth. Quite pathetic in my opinion.

  • Joseph says:

Women soloists will probably be playing naked in 10 years to keep the audience interested. Meanwhile, men are still in the stiff attire they’ve worn for hundreds of years.

  • Mick the Knife says:

Shes the antidote to long hours looking at opera singers.

  • Riki says:

I don’t know why attention is still brought to this. She’s a brilliant artist and performer. Let her be one without criticizing how she chooses to express herself.

  • Stuart says:

Who cares about the dress? Well played but frankly not a very good piece of music. Nelsons certainly had his head buried in the score for that one.

  • Peter says:

Stick to commenting on music Norman.
People of our age should have grown out of ogling girls in short skirts.

  • Karin Becker says:

At last, Yuja not only shows us both her bare thighs at the same time, she also shows that she is wearing a slip under her dress. Now fans just have to know: Is it maybe a thong?

  • Karin Becker says:

What is applauded here: the pianistic performance or the pianist’s thighs? As a concert goer, you can expect a concert pianist to have respect for her audience, so she also dresses respectfully. Not every concert goer, not all orchestra members appreciate it when uninvited bare thighs are unpacked in front of them and the cutting of a dress allows glimpses of the briefs worn by Miss Wang. Miss Wang can play the piano, but she has no sensitivity and no culture. Her style includes performing in hot pants and a top made entirely of fabric strips in a Swiss church or in concerts in Istanbul. Miss Wang apparently wants to provoke. Therefore, for me she is not a serious artist, but a foolish girlie who puts her own intentions above music, musicians and the audience. With her questionable outfits, she violates rules of aesthetics, cultural decency and respect. But she is clever and knows how male brains react when you offer them female nudity and sexual stimuli: men then switch off their minds – they react in the Stone Age. The show also the numerous comments under the Youtube movies.

  • Save the Met says:

After a performance, numerous orchestra members around the world bet on whether the critics will first comment on the performance, or her attire. 9 times out of 10 it is about the outfit. The sad state of music criticism.
