A dose of Dutch courage for Placido Domingo
mainA message from the Dutch tenor Frank Van Aken:
Thank you mister Domingo for being a great sympathetic and warm supportive college to my wife Eva Westbroek when you sang with her and thank you also for being so supportive when my son was in the hospital 12 years ago. Also our new dog Keetje thanks you! (No complains from her)
Covent Garden jan 22, 2019 London,
We wish you strength in those hard times for you and your family.
One could say none of these things would have happened if he retired as a great singer ten years ago. The problem is he is also a prominent opera conductor, they would still have gone after him. Fundamentally he seems like a decent person with some flows. I feel more sorry for him than other celebrities in this predicament.
It is those (unregulated) flows that self disgraced.
Flaws!!!
This comment obviously choosing not to be in the least mindful of the myriad willing female groupies who hang around famous people.
I think you meant flaws
I’m irritated.
There is no shame to report being groped.
One could do it
anonymously if worried about their job.
But to have the entire mob pile on? Doesn’t quite add up.
You shouldn’t feel sorry for him or any other celebrities. Why feel sorry for people who sexually assault people. Also, don’t tell me that many allegations are made up. He was a scumbag for whatever he has done and it’s time to take responsibility for it, no need to be sorry for him.
Should not the voices of at least 20 women and countless rumors circulating for the past 20 or 30 years regarding mr. Domingo’s sexual appetite be taken seriously? Just because he is an extraordinary musical talent does not elevate him above scrutiny for his personal behavior. Nor should his fame and accomplishments be used to protect him from these accusations. It is quite possible there are two sides to this sad ending to an illustrious career. Why feel sorry for him? If the a accusations are true, and they may be, then he deserves exactly what is happening to him now.
“Also our new dog Keetje thanks you! (No complains [sic] from her)”
So the 20 women who allege sexual misbehavior are to be alluded to along with dogs? It would appear his sense of professional behavior is matched only by his wit…
When you have to show a picture of yourself with a dog or a cat, it seems to me that your cause is lost;-)
If the allegations are true , he’s a pig. Wonder what he’s packin?????????
Support could not come from two more respected artists.
Bravissimo to both Eva and Frank.
The Attack on Placido Domingo is the latest in the cyclical witchcraft persecutions by the society of we better-holier-chapter-fairer-jouster-more-peace-loving than the rest of the world. What started as a good idea: women in cases of abuse are telling the truth except when proved lying has become a nightmare. I hate this bi-polar solar system we support, but men, it’s time to Unite to Fight Witchcraft!
Why would a man with an ADORING fan base keep chasing unwilling women? And – after supposedly so many warnings about him, why did these vestal virgins still visit his rooms? Anomalies galore.
Anti-Domingo campaigners are likely to use this picture as proof that cruelty to animals was also involved.
Nice touch of Frank’s humour at the end. He’s always very dry, very funny.
Show me a woman who has not been harassed during her life here on earth. Try and find her. You will not succeed.
All I know is that he is the greatest living opera performer and will remain forever so in my mind.
Interesting we don’t see any “courage for Domingo’s victims” here. Or cute dog photos of the women whose careers were compromised as a result of his stalking and predatory behavior.
That is because they can not be conceived as “people” with feelings etc of their own. It is a failure of empathy.
There is enough groveling pro-Domingo material on this blog to fuel an entire book on what’s wrong with the classical music industry and the backward people who are its self-appointed defenders.
