It’s Not Unusual to follow the scheduled arrival and departures of the stars of any genre of Art.
I hate to have to say it, but Opera can use all the publicity it can get.
When I lived in Chicago, Pavarotti had a contract with the Lyric Opera. He went to record stores and signed his Opera records, and he signed autographs for anyone whether they bought something or not.
Everything he did was news.

When it comes to climate change, a degree in delivering pizza (or jazz composition) suddenly qualifies as knowledge in that large field that is natual science (as long as it contradicts the girls and boys who really studied natural science) despite it still being nothing more than an (unqualified) opinion. I wonder why that is. 😉
It is more than evident that wifie is unconcerned about philandering hubbie. I suppose I do not blame her for it affords her private jet rides then and now. Melania Trump is another. Disgusting beyond belief. This jet ride gives a completely new, and even more horrific, complexion to the horrendous Domingo scandal. I’m glad I read it, though. It has at least put the Amazon, Brexit, G7, Syria, the Iran dispute, trade wars and other trivia out of mind. They pale in comparison. I am, however, anxious to know more about the rumour that a certain famous violinist has developed a verruca after swimming in a public pool. The Daily Mail has been investigating reports that the swimming fiddler had been doing the breast stroke! Is there to be no end to these horrors??

His son is pop singer. It’s always good to do little research before you waste your time (and ours).

I don’t think Sue needs to be told who is trying to make America ‘white’. She is among their number. Also, I don’t know whether it’s her ignorance of History — and I sometimes think everything else — or a bit of craftiness, but her comment about Hitler’s followers rests upon skipping over the 1920s, for that was the period in which the “lower orders” gravitated to the Nazis. The woman reminds me of the Know-Nothings in 19thc American politics.

This is actually just wrong. Support from the Nazi party was overwhelmingly from rural and small town Protestant voters, especially in North and Eastern Germany. The educated middle class voted mainly for Liberal or Social Democrat parties.
You could benefit by a little more education yourself.
The top intellectuals in Germany in the 1930s were Jewish.

I received an email today from the Metropolitan Opera promoting their opening week line-up of operas.
There was a small ad for the opening night of Macbeth, which is scheduled to star Anna Netrebko and Placido Domingo. However, in the ad there was no mention anywhere of Domingo, only Netrebko.
I wonder what this means………???????
They’re hedging their bets. I wonder who gets to make the final call, Gelb or Nezet-Seguin.
It will be Gelb who makes the call, after consulting his lawyers. But it is unlikely that the contract allows the Met to actually remove Domingo.
That’s a must not miss if she is as good as she was at Covent Garden singing this.

I am a subscriber to the Met, and I got the same email I think. It was a reminder that their opening night is a month away, and listed the operas for the opening week.
The blurb on Macbeth simply said “starring Anna Netrebko”. They didn’t mention Domingo at all.
They purposely left his name out of the ad.
Might this mean they are removing him from his scheduled Met performances?

Placido Domingo may have made the classic mistake some artists do, of staying on too long rather than leaving ’em wishing for more. But the man has a career that has moved mountains with his enormous talent and energy and generosity. For decades — and don’t start with “too many decades”; that point has been addressed. He is a legend. He deserves respect as an artist, whatever he is as a man.
Domingo has been no stranger in private jets for decades. During the murdering, kleptomaniac years of the dictator Marcos in The Philippines, Imelda Marcos maintained a suite at New York’s Waldorf Astoria for her voracious shopping trips. She was always accompanied by an entourage of “Blue Ladies” – rich Filipina socialites. She had earlier taken a shine to PD after inviting him along with the entire San Francisco Opera to Manila for Tosca performances in December 1979. PD thereafter was an occasional dinner guest in New York. If he happened to mention that he had to be somewhere else in North America a day or so later, one of the Blue Ladies would be instructed to arrange a private jet for him at Imelda’s expense.
In 2001 when The Three Tenors appalled many in the music business by singing in huge open air spaces on consecutive very hot and humid June evenings, first in Seoul’s Olympic Stadium and the next night in Beijing’s Forbidden City, PD flew from and back to St. Petersburg on a private jet. At least Pavarotti and Carreras had flown transcontinental into Asia on scheduled airlines.
So so sad to see SD sinking deeper and deeper by the minute, Slinging so much Dirt along its pathway.
