The Russian Minister of Culture, Vladimir Medinsky, arrived at yesterday’s Tchaikovsky Competition press conference prepared to face questions about the violin that was seized from a prospective competitor at Moscow airport this weekend.

Medinsky said that the Russian-born violinist, Nikolai Managazze, had failed to register the violin when he last left Russia, as the rules required. He had only himself to blame.

What’s more, Managazze failed to qualify for the Tchaikovsky Competition.
