LA music student is shot dead near campus
mainA highly-regarded student at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music has been shot and killed during an attempted robbery in the neighbourhood.
Victor McElhaney, 21, was the son of an Oakland city councilwoman.
He was a jazz studies major.
The family are devastated.
How terrible.
Exactly why do you feel the need to report this?
uhhhh, . . because it’s real life? Hopefully USC will ramp up security around its perimeter.
That is sad.
Long, long ago when I was toying with the idea of graduate school, our department chairman made the comment, “USC… good school… bad neighborhood.”
Why USC? How many colleges do you know that actually have a major in jazz studies? What a shame!
Oakland is known for its progressive policies and its attempts to provide services to low income and vulnerable people but there will always still be crime. May McElhaney’s family find peace.
The young man was from Oakland, but he was murdered in Los Angeles near USC where he was studying.
