I heard the Vienna Philharmonic rejected his original list:
The Grand Waltz – The Sound of Music
The Embassy Waltz – My Fair Lady
Carousel Waltz – Carousel
Dancing – Hello, Dolly!
I Feel Pretty – West Side Story
The Paris Waltz – Candide
Breathe – In The Heights
You Should Meet My Wife – A Little Night Music
Last Midnight – Into the Woods
Stay out of the way, Maestro. Just let them play.
Great to see so much from the other Strauss brothers on the program.
Such a non controversial program.
Does Thielemann not like the press?
He should throw them a bone.
Come on, bring some controversial Nazi time composer who had a nephew who’s sister knew a pharmacist who sold sleeping pills to Baldur von Schirach.
Given the contents of your comment, it is unbelievable that you did not mention Trump.
Sarcasm is only for the more intelligent? Trump? Leave me alone with that Proto-Nazi.
It is sure to be back to the good old days with Thielemann… extremely safe hands. A very good programme.
You are probably right, judging from the Dresden 2010 new year’s eve gala. Thielemann has more experience with this kind of music than many other jet-setting conductors who have led the Vienna New Year’s Day concert since Boskovsky’s retirement.

What do the asterisks mean?
Those pieces will be featured for the very first time in history of the New Year’s Concert.
Great Orchestra, great Maestro, great program, great, great, great… 🙂
