Maestro move: Mum gives up her orchestra
mainA day after announcing the birth of her fourth child, the Portuguese conductor Joana Carneiro has told the Berkeley Symphony she won’t continue as music director. Next season will be led by guest conductors.
I’m not in Berkeley much any more, but that’s a shame. She’s been the director well for less than a decade, I believe. Regardless, I hope the best for her.
Let’s hope this talented woman will be able to return to the podium when she’s not so overwhelmed by ankle-biters!! Good luck.
