What for?Best hairdo?
Well, it’s most certainly not the award for best dressed conductor; if Lucky Luke and Marylin Manson had a lovechild, I’d imagine it’d look a bit like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXp9aj-0MyI (Qobuz interview with him from YouTube)
Indeed, the man of many hairdos. And one musical approach: predictable chaos.
It’s always the same. When we lost sight, we double our efforts and speed.
We then like actors who are intense.
Music had a chance, if people closed their eyes more often and actually listened.
Well said. This reminds me of my linguistic pet peeve: why do people talk about having “seen” a musician in concert? Is there something I missing because English is my second language?
No, you are not missing anything. The people who say they “saw” a concert are demonstrating the influence of sight over hearing.
There are studies confirming this. Here is one: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=8&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiTgtS58O_KAhUE5WMKHWHGCjgQFghQMAc&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.psy.mq.edu.au%2Fme2%2Fuploads%2Fpublications%2Fseeing_music_performance.pdf&usg=AFQjCNFh1n-Yi9swrk-1Fat-pSUhn0brmw&sig2=u_H2ERG1C1qv_lWnIw_0aw
Well, have you actually read it?
Music is still and always will be a primarily aural experience. Visuals are accompanying the hearing.
And the emotions are almost exclusively in the sonic experience.
There are tons of studies about that as well.
Did you know that suicide rates per capita are higher for deaf than for blind people.
Blind people can still live emotionally satisfying lifes. Deaf people not so much.
Emotions are reliably perceived primarily through sound, not visuals.
Listened….even before i saw a pic of him….it was terrible….
I think it is perfectly acceptable to “see” a concert after having closed ones eyes, listened intently and disliked what one heard, despite several attempts to overturn that verdict.
You’ve obviously never seen or heard Teodor Currentzis in front of an orchestra.
Apart from the usual Ilya Musin style nightmares visited on the audience in the name of music, the pretentiousness of this guy is first class.
Beethoven that doesn’t sound like Beethoven, Brashness in the extreme in Mahler, one can sense instantly he’s got no idea about Germanic music.
Fortunately he hasn’t been let loose on an international audience to the extent of that arch orchestral rehearsal train wrecker Valery what was his name?
