Minnesota musicians give $250,000 to their orchestra
mainIn a sure sign that peace has broken out since the horrendous 16-month lockout, musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra have donated the rest of their lockout fund to the organisation’s community outreach initiative.
The orchestra itself announced a small surplus.

This is a virtuous use for the funds.
But I wonder if maybe the money should instead have gone to the musicians’ union, to assist the next orchestra that is locked out.
I agree, William, that would have been an even better idea.
I disagree…using the money from the dissolution of their non-profit is both a literal and powerfully symbolic gift, representing healing better than perhaps anything else they could have done.
The lockout’s over, Pamela. Time to move on.

I did not donate to the Minnesota Orchestra musicians. Perhaps I should have.
I did donate to the Atlanta Symphony musicians.
There will be another lockout. It’s just a matter of time. I’m sure they will need support.
